Hello, I have recently joined this forums, hoping that someone will FINALLY answer this long-lost and asked question. Let me start off by saying that i have an hp x4000, and I have been willing to upgrade my xeon cpus from 1.7ghz to 3ghz. Even though hp says the x4000 doesn't officially support 3ghz, i have noticed that the tyan i860 aka S2603 have the same chipset, and motherboard as the x4000. The problem is that I'm scared of receiving a microcode error, or an un-usable motherboard because the x4000 doesn't officially support 3ghz xeon processors. I've googled the subject a lot, and noticed that some people have flashed their hp x4000 boards with tyan i860 bios, and successfully used 3ghz xeon cpus. If anyone knows how to flash the hp x4000 with the tyan i860 bios, and has actually used it with 3ghz xeon cpus please give me detailed instructions on how this is done. Also, can you tell me which CPU model i should use in my x4000 motherboard? I have heard in the hp forums listed below that SL6VW model xeon CPU doesn't even let the x4000 boot into bios, but the SL79V model xeon CPU allows the x4000 to boot (with the hp bios) but with a microcode error. This is why i want to flash my x4000 with the tyan bios, so I won't receive the microcode error. Also can anyone assure that the SL79V model works in the x4000? Thank You!
