I recently found a maxtor external HDD in my basement. According to my pop it hasn't been used in years. I found the cables and such and decided to give it a whirl as I am in need of some space to back up some things, its pretty old so its only a 120 gig disk. It seems to power on as a blue light appears on the front of the silver case when I flip the switch, however when I plug it into my laptop via usb nothing is recognized, as if it weren't even plugged in, no tone or anything. Is this drive a brick am I doing something wrong. model is : one touch E-D011

I heard some clicking once, other than that no noise at all when the blue light is on.

toss up whether it is the drive or the enclosure has gone bad. try the drive without the enclosure internally on a tower if the drive is a 3.5" version.

"Old" is a full-size five-inch 10 MB drive. I think I still have one around here someplace. :)
