lappy keys not working

my daughter has an asus notebook, some of the keys have stopped working on keypad, 2,4,6,9, - Q U. I have tried the obvious things like fn +number lock and fn + scroll lock but still not working. I also now have the problem that the fn +f4 wont work, which you use to lighten the screen. i've somehow managed to dim it down that much that the screen is black.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it or just to lighten the screen without using the fn +F4 key.

can use an external keyboard or get a replacement keyboard for the laptop.
