laptop wont turn on !!!

hi my m8 just gave me a hp compaq 6720s that wont turn on. when the adapter is pluged in nuffing happens when u press the power botton the light nxt to the jack lights up so thats working and it works on the other laptop i have. but when the adapter is out and you press the power button the button lights up for a few seconds and goes out again i cant hear the fans starting or that just the light. i have tried a few things that have worked in the passed like taking out the batt and adapter and holding the power button for 30 seconds that didnt work. i have also took out the ram and hdd and put them bck in that niver worked either. im stuck on what to try next does anyone have any ideas to what it might be and how i could fix it thanks for any help

I would do a full rebuild on it; this is not a guaranteed fix, but it does work very frequently in my experience. Don't forget to remove the bios battery while you are in there, and replace the thermal pads/grease too.

i agree with killerbug. make sure everything is plugged in correctly and snug in place my two cents would either be the motherboard is shot or maybe the battery. if it has more than 1 ram stick in it take one out leave the other in it.

hi thanx for the reply what do you mean with a full rebuild ? i have took the ram out and then tried 1 stick at a time with no luck i think it must be something to do with the motherboard.
