OK, so I turned on my screens today to see a single-pixel wide yellow line running vericaly down one of my screens (the primary screen). I said some choice words, then went to newegg to price out a good replacement. However, by the time I got to newegg's monitor selection, the line had dissapeared. I did not touch either screen, the computer, the monitor cables, or anything touching the monitor cables after I pressed the power buttons to turn them on in the first place. I had been doing some system maintanance & tuning on this machine using RD last night, so now I wonder:

Would such a problem indicate a monitor that is about to have a permanent vertical line? Or is it more likely that it was just a remnant of something I did last night?

if the monitor was powered on this morning with that line showing that eventually went away then has nothing to do with last night but does indicate a cold solder joint. it will take longer over time to disappear til it won't as to big of a gap between solder & transistor to close together.

This is a fault that I've seen happen to a few samsung monitors, but the line is usually green. I would replace the monitor regardless, problems like that don't just happen by themselves.

Yeah, if it had been a green line, I would already have gotten a new screen. As it is, it was just a light yellow line that went away, and has not come back even after ~16 hours of being turned off. I'm kinda hoping that ddp was half-right, and that I just had some cracked solder that was providing a bad connection...the heat generated by such a connection might have been enough to melt it back to conductivity.

I think I'll wait until the screen either has a permanent line, or untill I have money for a pair of nice 24's.

killer, need about 400 degrees f to melt solder so you still have a cold solder joint if that is the problem.
