do you need the dvd burner, though? idk too much about this kind of hardware, but youll prolly want one that has a 1GBps link speed (ethernet) and performs well in throughput, not all are alike and some seem to be terribly slow. do a search for models and looks for the reviews from review sites. RAID is nice, but JBOD might suit you, as well. try and get one with storage for than one drive.

My server is a regular computer with Windows 7 that stays on 24 hrs a day. I have a folder with about 750GB of .avi's shared with the other 2 (wired) computers and 2 (wi-fi)PS3's in the house.
No special devices or NAS enclosure needed.

I own the LG N2B1 the one with the Blu-Ray burner. NewEgg had it on sale with a 1 terabyte hard drive for $220. I think it was several months ago. Its a Gigabit unit my router is Belkin N1 Vison. Again Gigabit speed and cat 6 cable and I only get USB speed appox. 7 to 10 min to transfer 4.4 gig movie. The E-Sata port will lock up unit and you have to reboot nas. My set top boxes will connect after set up then the nas denies access until you go thru set up again But, USB 2 drives connected are alway accessible. It will not allow access to any of my USB 3 drives. I had a D-Link 321 it worked But SLOW. I am using an old dual core AMD 2.2GHZ Windows XP computer and does much better than these NAS units. An add on USB 3 card and E-SATA port and you transfer 4.4 Gigabit movie in appox. 2 min or less. The computer will handle copying movie to hard drive and at same time we have watched movies on two different TV's without a hitch. So listen to Deadum33 and find cheap computer. I bought the LG to remove the Blu-Ray drive for a computer in first place so that was worth about $100. The LG N2B1 works fine with all computers on network So, not total loss. Too SLOW for large files!!
