I've bought a PCI-E PCI controller card as I've got a couple of IDE discs I'm using. Yes I could get SATA discs and not have any problem but having had to replace my car cash is rather strapped atm and the card was like 25$.
But it works sod all for me. I can browse the files on the discs but:
If I copy to or from the drives, either to or from SATA or USB disk it slowed down after a bit...sits ther and then goes blue screen for a memory dump and a forced restart. If I cancel the downlaod explorer goes poop after 20s ecs and I can't open any new explorer windows or any tabs in browser for like 20 mins...I can't restart either really since it sticks on loggin out for 5+ mins and then on shutting down for 10+ mins.
Using drive to download to also produces this. If I do try to copy it seems I can manage to copy over one or two files with a maximum size of 800 MB before this occurs again.
Also during tranfers it will often take over all system resoruces to the poitn where videos can't play properly, audio cant paly properly and mouse can't move fluidly over screen...before sticking and going blue screen - memory dump - forced restart.
A check of Taks Manager while this is going on reverals that during the copy phase neither CPU or Memory goes above 50% usage.
Can ANYONE give me even a hint of waht the hell is going on here?...card is basically useless at performing ANY HDD activity apart from browsing.
System highlights:
Win7 Home 64bit SP1 genuine version
I5 2500K
Asus Asrock P67 Pro3 SE
8 GB Ram
Radeon HD5850 on PCI Ex16 long slot.
Creative xfi Titanium audio car on PCI-E short slot.
Delock PCI-E IDE controller on PIC-E short slot

GPU Card is in slot far away from CPU port, audio is in short slot closest to CPU port and PCI-E IDE controller is in short slot just below GPU Card
