okay I am so frustrated and need some help please...
I can connect my computer to modem directly and internet works fine...
I connect modem to router to computer... and I get "Local Connection" only... if I do diagnose , it tells me there is a modem or router problem, I need to reset the connection, etc... Sometimes it gives me a DNS SERVER error saying cannot locate microsoft.com...
***Background... please don't suggest checking wires etc... I understand those are probably the most common issues, but i've dealt with this for 2 days... I've tried 3 different routers, different cables, different computers, different rooms... and wasted over 2 hrs with useless comcast tech support, going over all of the same s**t again and again, only to end with "here is our compatibility list"...
NOTE: The same setup was working perfectly fine for over a month with each of those routers tested... this problem just occurred randomly one day I go to my computer, and poof no internet...
I would remove any antispyware software on your computer and see if that does anything. If that doesn't work replace your firewall. Many times disabling the firewall won't help because it will still run in the background.
More than likely it's a software problem.
Try booting up with a linux livecd and see if that has problems connecting you to the internet. If it does than you have a hardware problem.
thanks for the suggestion, i managed to get my internet working... I uninstalled Mcafee suite and connection doctor that I had downloaded from comcast... not sure which one caused the problem, but I'm guessing mcafee...
anyway, if I can continue in the same post and ask a different question:
everything works now, but regardless of router, if I am downloading alot of things (steam games, torrents, combination)... then in about 15 minutes I lose internet connection... it comes back automatically after a few minutes.
Is this a router issue or a modem issue?? If router issue, any suggestions on how to tweak the settings??
