i bought a new h/d the problem is when i turn pc on i get please change slave to master but the jumper is correct as ive installed windows to this new h/d and if i unplug it a few times it will work what i have noticed is when pc turns on sometimes there is no power going to the h/d i got a new ide cable sam problem tried old h/d same problem any help cheers

who makes the drives & what drives are on that cable?

i made a mistake every time i plug in old hd it does work power goes to it all the time with new one i have to try restarting pc about 10 to 20 times and power will go to it only once per 20 times maxtor makes the new drive and no other drives on cable

ide, has a jumper. three main settings - slave, master, cable select (decides for you based on the ribbon cable.) Also, the top connector (farthest away from the motherboard side should be master, middle one is for slave. this is how cable select determines master and slave. fyi in case you didnt know.
