Looking to buy a Laptop for my 10 year old

Preferably either a Toshiba, Dell or HP.

Just for general usage of internet and Word / Powerpoint. No real gaming as such.

Which is more important - RAM or processor ? Just wondering if 2mb RAM is plenty .

I have seen two similar models, both priced £349. The one has 3mb RAM with a Intel pentium dual core,

but the other has an Intel i3 processor, but just 2mb RAM http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5084760.htm

Im assuming if I dd more RAM to the Toshiba that would invalidate any wrranty (2 years).

Thanks for any advice

Why pay that much for a lappy for a 10 year old
Get a reasonable second hand one
Half the pc/laptop i repair are miss use by youngsters
But to answer your question 2 gb of ram (its the bare requirement) will run Windows 7 nicely
and the Intel I cpu very good
But for a 10 year old well over spec'ed

ok out of the brands i suggest going with toshiba i had a hp tablet lappy and it died in the second year and Dell i work with them on a daily basis and they always have issues from software and hardware and remember with dell if something goes wrong u will have to pay more for the support and they have specific hardware that works with the laptops although i just suggest toshiba stable both hardware and software.

I do hear what you say - and I think I got steamrolled into it by my wife, who would moan like fck at anything 2nd hand if it had any sort of issues.
And she has no concept of what a pc can do, so it was no point even going there.

As I see it the laptop should last at least 3-4 years anyway, so a good investment, and has a 2 year warranty with it.

My next project is buying myself a new Desktop - so that will be my next post !!
I mainly use it for browsing , small amount of Office use, and editing home videos .
This model (£369) seems to suit my requirements, especially as it has a firewire card that is the same as the one I use to connect my sony camcorder.
HP seem to be one of the better models as well

Any comments welcome . I dont tend to use the pc in another room, so no real need for a laptop. And I guess a desktop gives me more scope for upgrades in the future ?
