A friend of mine has two computers, one a custom made(I don't know off-hand what all parts installed but I will try to find names and numbers) and a T3418 Desktop emachine.
He wanted to up the RAM in the custom computer with the older emachine's RAM
Both of these computers support and had installed PC3200 RAM.
The emachine had a 1Gig stick installed whereas the custom had only 512MB and more slots available.
He installed the 1gig stick into the custom, closed the case, connected everything like it was, pushed the power button on the computer....nothing happened.
Confused, he reinstalled the RAM into the emachine....nothing again.
Then he tried the RAM in the custom computer into the emachine...it turned on, but there is no signal to the monitor or keyboard.
So, then he ordered more RAM for the computers (thinking it could be a case of bad RAM). He got 2 512MB Crucial RAM sticks. He installed one in each computer and they both have the same problem still,no signal to the monitor or keyboard.
All other power seems to be going where its suppose to.(USB, CD/DVD Drive, Ect.)
Turning on the computers, they do not post, nor do the lights on the keyboard flash or come on when you hit the caps lock, number lock, or scroll lock.
And the monitor does not receive a signal but the gfx card(ATI Radeon X1300) in the emachine it's attached to seems to be getting power still because the fan is running.
I've looked at it for sometime now and only had one idea, which failed.
I removed the CMOS battery on the MoBo to reset it, but to no avail.
Also, the original RAM that seemed to start this mess, I tried it in my own PC and they work fine.
We've tried on different monitors and keyboards(both serial and USB)
I'm stumped as well as my buddy. ?_?
I'm graciously asking for some advice.
TY in advance.
