my sister has an inspiron mini dell laptop and i cant seem to connect it to our wireless router

my PS3 connects fine so that isnt the problem

do i need an attachment on the laptop to make it receive wifi?

No you probably haven't configured the wireless adapter properly, assuming that you have a wireless adapter in your laptop.

It's most likely that you do but since you haven't provided any detailed information on the laptop or the router it's impossible to be sure.
