I've had this problem for a while now, about 8 years to be exact.
My 2001 hp desktop has had the same reboot issue for a long while, and I finally am getting fed up with it.
Everytime I reboot, the screen goes blank, but not the wierd blackness, no, the screen is not recognizing the computer (The screen button indicates so).
The wierd thing is that a manual shutdown and power up works fine, no issues, which is why I have used it so long without any issues.
But now it's irritating, becuase after installing windows 7 fresh on it, the installation requires a few reboots, and, yeah, now the screen is unrecognized again.
I'm afraid to manual shtdown and start up because I don't want to mess up the installation.
I had a similar problem with an old 19 inch monitor. During reboot the monitor would stop working. I would have to plug and unplug the monitor for it to work again.
Need some clarification...
If the screen is unrecognised and the system is running (like after a reboot), does the screen work if you turn off the screen and then turn it back on? If not, I think the issue is with the computer, most likely the video card. If it does work after this test, it is most likely a bad screen.
