I have a Gateway MX6124 laptop; I have a new monitor hooked up (the laptop screen, or the chip that controls it, rather, is not working) and wish to remove the laptop COVER so I can place the new monitor BEHIND the keyboard/main laptop bottom. All the stuff I am finding online for removing the hinge screws only go as far as replacing the screen, NOT completely removing the top. Any places online that can help/show me how to remove the hinge screws and completely TAKE OFF THE TOP? Only thing I am worried about is cutting some wires I find that going to the screen that would somehow affect the computer's working and that not only affect the screen. Is it as simple as removing the hinge screws, lifting up the power button strip, and just snipping a wire or two that I find trailing to the top?

Again, I want to REMOVE THE TOP HALF OF THE LAPTOP COMPLETELY, not only repair the screen and leave on the top half (sorry, but I have asked 4 people so far online and NONE OF THEM understand what I want to do, which to me seems stupidly simple to understand).

Thank you.

". . .not only repair the screen and leave on the top half . . ."

Do you mean not only or not just?

If you don't intend to have the top connected anymore "not just", which I'm assuming because you are talking about cutting cables.

You may not be able to do this as some laptops have a circuit that is completed by a connection between the screen and the lower half of the laptop.

If it were me, speaking from experience with the IBM Thinkpad, you need to follow the directions for replacing the screen. Follow ALL cables from lid to the body of the laptop and disconnect them. (Don't cut anything yet).

If the laptop powers up and operates with the cables disconnected, you are done since at this point you should have the cables disconnected and the hinges removed.

If the PC will not operate with the cables removed then the screen needs to be connected and you will have to leave it as such.

NEVER CUT CABLES (unless you are planning to modify them somehow).
