Ribbon Cable extension.

Hi everyone,

I am looking to extend a ribbon cable that connects parts of my laptop LCD screen. The cable is made of 16 wires, roughly 1mm in width each. I can't figure out a solution to this problem. I can't imagine I could solder that small of a wire, let alone 16 of them. I seem to be able to find ribbon cable online, but the ends are simply cut off. I would have to solder them. Therefore, is it possible to buy a ribbon cable extension, where one side is cut and the other end is a connector piece, much like the one found where the ribbon cable goes into the circuit board? It clips shut.

If anyone has any other solution it would be greatly appreciated. I can provide pics if needed.

I assume this is one of those brownish ribbon cables that seems almost to be a piece of plastic?

I have a way of soldering to them that almost anyone should be able to do.

Just get a lighter and pass it under the end of the cable you want to solder to. Go back and forth quickly; we do not want to burn the plastic; we just want to melt it. Once the plastic is hot, use a paper towel to pull the melted plastic off of the wires. You can now solder to these, and you can even (carefully) pull the leads up from the rest of the plastic...so that some of your solder points are offset from the others, making them all a lot easier. I did this to convert an external iPod screen into a PS2 screen; it worked perfectly.
