SATA external hd isn't recognizable anywhere..

Hello. A friend recently gave me a seagate 1TB sata hd out of his Drobo. Anyway i bought 2 external cases to try. IT WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED ANYWHERE IN EITHER CASE. It spins but every comp i plug the usb cord into it just doesn't get seen. Doesn't acknowledge theres a usb device plugged in.I tried:

Fiance's MacBook
My XP Laptop
Mothers Vista Laptop
And my DAW Desktop

Any ideas? I don't think the drive is bad and my fried stated it worked fine in the drobo. He said it might need to be reformatted for ntsf or fat32 but how can i even do that if no os sees it?

try the drive internally if have a desktop with sata connectors on motherboard.

I would but my desktop is an ide. Also the jumper is set on 1.5gbps.

Do you think the drive is just no good? I mean it spins up it just don't get recognized.

All the people i know have older ide desktops. Sad but true. The only thing i could do is bring it back to my friend and see if his Drobo sees it. Then i'll know it's prolly the sata external enclodures i bought.
