Hey guys, my ACER desktop recently died due to blown caps (I think?!) on the mobo... pc wouldn't POST anymore. So I pulled out most parts, and built a new pc with what I could salvage from the Acer. All pulled parts are working fine in my new pc.

The Acer came with an Intel Q6600 quad core processor @ 2.4Ghz which was successfully transferred into the new pc. I've still got the old mobo, ram, and graphics card.. and I thought I would tinker with the dead mobo, and replace the capacitors on the board, and see if I could resurect it. The only thing I would really need is a new CPU. I don't want a powerhouse as I've already got that, I just need something to use as a backup... soooo.. my question is will ANY socket 775 CPU work on this board? I've been searching for a new processor, and there are a lot of choices out there.. seems this socket has been around for a while.. and I'm not sure if FSB speeds or anything like that makes a difference??

Thanks in advance!

Nope, it was an Acer Desktop, I believe the model was AM5620 (Canadian Model).

I don't know if it was my fault or not, but I had the case open pretty much the entire time that I had it, and the open side of the case was facing a direct window with LOTS of sunlight... System wouldn't POST anymore, and I noticed some capictors were popped and had goo oozing from the tops. I've already replaced the bad caps, and am in the process of getting a new/used cpu. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm a bit broke right now, and don't want to spend the $200+ for a Q9550... not yet anyways. My current PC is used for gaming and other light duty applications (burning, picture editing, etc) My quad core is an excellent over clocker cpu... so if/when speed becomes a factor, I can always go that route.

I'm guessing that any 775 socket should work...
