Standard VGA video driver works but not Nvidia driver

i have a NVidia Geforce 210 on a MSI 975X Platinum V2 motherboard.

everything runs fine with the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" driver that gets loaded with Windows 7. Then I load the NVidia 210 driver and when it reboots it all goes to a black screen.

Has anyone ever heard this to be a hardware issue with the motherboard?
