Hi,
I upgraded the ram on my laptop from (1gb)2x512mb to (4gb)2x2gb.
I am running Vista 32Bit with a GeForce 8400m GS video card.
It only shows that i have 3gb of system ram.
And for the video card:
Total available graphics memory: 1343mb
Dedicated video memory: 64mb
System video memory: 0mb
Shared system memory: 1279

What does this mean?

Also, i recently installed GTA 4 but in the game most of the textures are missing and the graphics is awful but i cant change the graphics settings because it shows that i only have 64mb of video ram (which is not enough to higher the settings).

So what happen the remaining 1gb (which i though went to my video card)?

Thank You

GTA is correct in seeing that you have only 64MB of graphics memory...the other 1279MB of it is just system ram, so it will help with some windows apps, but will not help with full screen software like games. I would give up on trying to run GTA4 or any other remotely modern games on this laptop.

Cant i use the 1279mb as graphics?
Or increase the dedicated video memory?

The shared video memory is far too slow to use with games...it is more for windows apps like photoshop and such. If the game is trying to use it, this would explain why there are so many missing graphical elements.

see what the games' requirements are in respect to videcard memory & what the price difference is between the 512meg & 1gig.

When you buy a gaming card, the memory is all dedicated video memory, even if there are 2GB or more of it. The video in your laptop is equivelent to a 64MB graphics card, but with the ability to use over 1gb of much slower system memory for some desktop tasks.

512MB is still a good amount of video memory, and should be enough for a low-end card like the 250...that said, the 250 will not give you stellar performance from a game like GTA4.
