just now, my uncle bought 2x1gig patriot 667 sticks for the a135 satellite; it's replacing 2x512mb kingston 667. according to the crucial advisor, it said it would accept 2gigs at 667. but when popped in, only one stick is recognized by the bios and vista, BUT cpu-z detects both sticks. the 2x512mb kingstons are both detected to make 1gig.

tried the sticks in a newer satellite, and that one detects them just fine. also tried the 2x1gig (800) from the newer satellite into the older a135, but it failed to post.

checked the corsair site, and it recommended 533 instead of 667.

any ideas on this one?

"it recommended 533 instead of 667."

I dropped two 1 gig 800 sticks into a puter that said it takes 533 once

the result was the MB read them as two 500 MB

found out that not all boards are backward compatible

zero, has nothing to do with speed but with density as i ran into that problem with a 512meg sdram read as 256meg. it was double density ram but board could only read single density ram.

both sticks work in both slots when used one at a time.

did a bios update to see if it would do anything, but it didn't; still only reads 1gig.

maybe bios/motherboard doesn't like patriot 667 ram but likes kingston 667 ram. what does crucial say for ram compatibles for laptop?

the motherboard may be picky. i might just switch over to a corsair or kingston kit; never had a problem with either in the past.
