I want to upgrade virtualy everything about it but don't really know where to start.
I more or less want to gut my 4700 and replace everything I need to in order to get at least a half-way-decent gaming PC.
And do I need to get a new motherboard in order to upgrade to an Intel I7?

Well, what are the current specs of the PC? You can download and run (no install) cpuZ, and then save a log of the results to post here - it will include things like motherboard model, ram speed etc that you may not know already.

Your mobo will need to support LGA1156, and as Google told me the 4700 is a P4, the answer is yes, you'll need a new one.

moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue.
4700 Specifications link http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy...s.htm#wp1043338
that appears to be a socket 775 cpu so you need new motherboard, cpu, ram & case but able to use current drives.

Okay, so I can't just gut and reuse what I've got, I have get a completely new outside casing?
As far as motherboards, I hear Asus makes some pretty good ones. Any recomendations?

wiring in the dell is the problem for a non-dell board.

I would recommend GIGABYTE. I am running an Intel i5 chip on a GIGABYTE LGA1156 socket motherboard and have experienced no problems.
