i changed the BIOS and nothing changed so i looked at wiring in the manual and none are the same. there was a spare cable taped up that i think needs connecting to the onboard header but my cables dont match, mine are as listed below.
return L
return R
mic- in
mic- bias
speaker out L
speaker out R
ground
the onboard ones are listed below from left to right top to bottom
ground, presence, mic-return, out-return
mic2L, mic2R, out2R, jsence,out2L

ok an update, i have the headphones working but no mic, i did sound test on skype and it didnt work, they gave a link whick took me to windows sound test and both worked ok, but when i went back to skype it wasnt working.

If the windows sound test works, then skype is probably configured wrong.

ive done the tools, i think prob is that when i have to go into audio sounds and devices in windows it is not saving, even tho i am clicking apply.

if using a webcam with builtin mic then that is what you select in audio device not your soundcard.

yes its a seperate cable which i hadnt noticed because it was taped to the usb cable

well eventually got it sorted, one of the settings was not saving, so eventually got it saved and bingo working. so thanks very much for everyones help.
