So my buddy gave me his old Belkin N1 Wireless Router (F5d8236-4v1) to use at my house. I unplug my wired modem's USB port, and hook everything up. Now, I have to use Ethernet to do this, and what do you know? My Ethernet port doesn't work, and I don't get internet when using it, internet only works with USB. The funny thing is, I click Network Connections in the control panel, and this connection is sending/receiving thousands of packets and appears to be active, but internet does not work. Does this have something to do with the MAC address? HELP!!!

Open a command window (dos window)
Start/run/cmd

Then type in ipconfig /all

you'll see your enabled adaptors listed, make a note of the details.

You should see an ip address assigned along with gateway and dns.

Also go into the control panel/network connections/local area connnection that you are plugged into router with. Check TCP/IP properties to ensure you have auto obtain IP address (not a static address entered)

providing you are getting an Ip address from the router, then ping that address (even though its your own PC) ping 192.168.0.2 (example)
then ping the default gateway example 192.168.0.1.

If that works, open IE and where the web address is entered at top, enter the IP address of the gateway (don't put http:// etc..., just the IP address) make sure you can log onto the web management of the router.

See how you go with that lot first.

Try right clicking on my computer > manage > device manager.

Go down to network adapters and find the one for your ethernet plug.
Try disabling it and re-enabling it.

If it does have something to do with your MAC address, you need to ring up your ISP, and give them the MAC address which you can find underneath your modem on the sticker or in the manual for the device.

Also try going to network connections, right clicking > properties the connection for the router you're talking about. in the box 'this connection uses the following items:' scroll down to 'Internet Protocol: (TCP/IP)' and then click properties.

In both the 'general' and 'alternate configuration' tabs make sure everything is set to 'obtain IP automatically'

See if that works, just tinker about with that stuff, but make sure you change things back If they dont work
