Swap Magic 3.8 can't start original discs in PS/2 fat model

Hi. Hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I've just bought Swap Magic 3.8 with slide tool for a PS/2 (SPC-39002 - AUS model which is a "v7" PS/2). The blurb for 3.8 said it worked with all versions of PS/2.

Swap Magic DVD starts fine but whenever I put in a burned DVD it would start the load then say "Please enter a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc." I thought I might have been burning the DVDs incorrectly so I put an *original* Star Wars Battlefront II (SWBF2) disc -- however I get the same error screen asking for a PS/2 format disc.

The SWBF2 disc starts fine if I start the PS/2 with that disc inserted. I only get this error if I use it after booting from Swap Magic 3.8 first.

Any ideas what would cause this?
