Before i get raged at like there's no tomorrow - i've been researching this for weeks. My aim? I want to soft mod my ps2 and run backups.
I have:
ARMax (The new one without max media player - or so the guy off ebay told me, i havn't actually used it yet.)
PSP (to transfer stuff to the memory card or whatever)
An Australian Launch PS2 - I'm not sure the exact model but it's waaaay old. November 2000.
What i'm after:
Some sort of definitive guide to soft modding, starting from the implementation of FreeMC boot (if that's even the best method? I have no idea!) to running the actual back-ups themselves.
I've been looking everywhere, youtube, forums, google but guides are either fragmented or contain broken links + negative feedback or contradict one another. I really would like to keep my PS2 in working order if i can help it ahah.
I have had experience with modding:
PSPs
Wiis
Nokia (tore apart the Symbian operating system)
So i'm not a complete scrub, but i'm going to assume i have subpar googling skills.
Can start by reading through these guides if you haven't yet.
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/index.php Dunno if you're ARMax will work, but might as well try it both of the ones listed and see. wont hurt anything.
installing freeMCboot wont mess up anything, just installs the exploit on the memory card and takes up a few megs(Can delete other stuff if you don't plan on using it to free some space like SMS and HDloader).
As for backups, all you need is have ESR.ELF(The noobie package links have it, and other software for it too.) then just patch the ISO with ESR patcher, burn it and put the game in and it will automaticly launch ESR.
Though i only used the guide for Swap Magic as no gamestore around here had ARmax for ps2.
Hope this helps, as i did the same thing a week or so ago, searching everywhere for more info then just tried the guides on that site and it worked fine.
