Hi there Everbody,
This is my first post here at AfterDawn but before i get started i would just like to thank everyone who contributes to solving problems on this site as it has been a great help to me over the last year or so!
Ok so on to my problem, When i attempt to burn an image with DVD Decrypter i kepp getting I/O errors imediately after the writting lead-in process. I will be posting up a log of my next failed burn as i forgot to save the logs last night(4AM)lol!
The burner i am using is a Aopen DUW1608 drive flashed with 1616 F/W The disks are verbatim dvd-r 16x http://www.ebuyer.com/product/117962
I am burning @ 4x and using the test mode function in Decrypter
This is a brand new bundle of disks but i have never used DVD-R before, only DVD+ so i think this might be my problem???
I have successfully burned 2 working back-ups but have lost 7 disks in the process!
Please let me know of any further details i need to provide to help solve my dilemma and now if i may ask just a few questions on subject?
1: Am i right in thinking that if the original disk in question has a few scratches on it and it manages to pass the read mode in Decrypter and complete its process that i have a sound image to burn of can the image itself still be faulty?
2: If this is the case is there a way to test the image before burning to avoid the waste of disks as when i select test mode it passes the test but then still fails the write process. I just find it strange that when it does fail it is immediately after the Write lead-in process yet it has burned twice successfully on the same settings.
Ok thats it for now, im not that great with words so forgive me if my post

Wow never heard of this problem before! I know that if the iso is bad it will be screwed up while playing, but while burning you should have no problems. If dvd+r works better, try booktyping it to dvd-rom and then burning! Hope this helps. Write back if you dodn't know how to booktype. ;)

Try using the newer imgburn, and save the log or the I/O error you are getting?
It is more helpful.

Thank you all for your suggestions,
"emofive" Dont realy know about book typing sorry :( could you explain?
"flowrent" I thought burner issue aswell so i bought a brand new samsung sh-s223 and guess what.....
Burn process now completes everytime but the ps2 wont load the games, i just get a black screen after swapmagic load screen and the disk keeps trying to read then sounds like the laser is actualy hitting the disk, although it isnt the sound is enough to make me reset the console.
"smokyrain" I am no longer suffering failed burns so no error logs just disks that will not load???
Ok let me just state what im doing and what im using and maybe you guys can try and spot where im going wrong.
Media = Verbatim 4.7GB 16x, rip/burn with dvd decrypter 3.5.4.0
Burning the MDS file @ 4x on my new samsung sh-s223 dvd-rw drive
Console is a slim ps2 model number 70000# and i am booting with swapmagic 3.6
I have wasted about 9 disks all in all but have two working backups that load with no problems so i know these disks are capable and i know that the dvd-rw is compatible so what could be going wrong??
Please, Please advise me as wasting these disks is beginning to P**s me off ;( lol
Thanks

Little update, I tried backing up from original copy of mercenaries 2 and rebuilding with ExPERT_v105 as stated in thit post
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/697821
I burned @ 2x with dvd decrypter and still the game burns successfully but i just get a black screen after swap magic load screen??
I also tried backing up My copy of time splitters 3 a couple of times but the same problem occurs.
Quick question, Can someone here please verify how i find out what games need rebuilding and what ones i can just Read and Then write??
I really dont know what i could be doing wrong here, my console plays other backups but just wont play any new backup on these verbatim disks although the two that actual did work i have had no problems with.
MAN Im Confused, Please can someone suggest something for me to try

Dude, you're killing us . Is it a SATA burner or IDE ? Check the cables, change the connector on the MB and reset the bios.
Swap Magic 3.6 needs an original game with HIGH TOC ( big game) inserted before the backup or else you get black screen . Do you have that ?

Sorry for the murders mate lol
Its a sata drive and ive tried different cables but not sure why i would reset my bios???

Sorry man im new to all this could you please break down your above comment??? Newbie, dont realy understand what your trying to say??
do you mean that you actually have to swap disks after the swap disk process??
I have backups of Killzone, Quantum solace(i Burned but must of been a fluke), Moto Gp 04 and a few others that i did not burn that load straight from the swapdisk so im struggling to understand your concept.
I thank you for your patience and apologize for my lack of knowledge!

I'm actually having the same problem that you had with burning the games. I keep getting an I/O error when burning .hack//G.U. volume 1, right after starting the burning process. I got some Verbatim DVD-R's today (16x, same as you) and it only happens on this one game. I've wasted about 4 discs already. I tried it with ImgBurn at 4x, by the way. Then I tried it at 4x with DVD Decrypter and it worked fine... I have another burned copy that works fine (aside from some stuttering in FMVs), so I don't think it's the ISO. Do I just install those drivers that you installed to fix it?

When you try to run newer games on Swap Magic 3.6 they are often bigger in size than it . Then you'll see on the screen saying " Please insert higher TOC game " meaning an original game bigger in size than the one you're trying to run . Let it spin a couple of times then remove it and insert the backup .
But ,do try to install FMCB using Swap Magic .i'm sure it will fix all your problems, no more swapping and black screens. Find Ulaunchelf.iso , DVD format and see if you can boot it using the swap disc . Then we'll talk .

Artofn00b,
to tell you the truth i dont really know mate, if you select somthing different in dvd decrypter under I/O setting your I/O errors will go away but as far as i know most new dvd burners use ASAPI drivers but im not 100% on this so someone will have to confirm
flowrent
I found a Cd version of Ulaunchelf.iso and sawpmagic allowed me to boot it but i am unsure of where to go from here so "LETS TALK" lol
Also i went searching for info on FMCB and managed to get it installed via a USB Drive but none of the extra functions show up in the browser screen of the ps2. I downloaded the Free MCBOOT newbie package with all the elf files included and transferred to the USB DRIVE placing them as instructed by this guide
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/FMCB_install_guide.html
I Booted the usb drive via swapmagic and the FREE MCBOOT installer loaded perfectly. I then installed MCBOOT by pressing X but when i reboot the ps2 the browser does not show the ESR, Free MCBOOT configurarion or UlaunchELF selections, although the Free MCBOOT logo comes up proving the installation worked.
Am i doing something wrong here ?

To play backups using esr, you need to patch the disc using ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a which can be found in this thread
I am not sure what esr.elf the noobie package uses, but I like using the r9b esr elf, which can be found in the same thread above.
You can just rename the ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf to ESR.ELF and copy it too memory card using uLe.

I know have all the files you mentioned above and im up and running with the MCBOOT Exploit, I can run ESR r9b and i have patched the game (mercenaries 2 in this instance) and it actually starts to load
but....only the first 2 image screens load and then i start hearing a screeching noise coming from the consoles laser and the disk will not load no further.
Although im not sure if its the MCBOOT SETUP, ESR, OR the Disk as it will not boot will swapdisk either so i think i might be back to my earlier promblem mentioned in one of my previous posts
"Burn process now completes everytime but the ps2 wont load the games, i just get a black screen after swapmagic load screen and the disk keeps trying to read then sounds like the laser is actualy hitting the disk, although it isnt the sound is enough to make me reset the console."
PS to eliminate the possibility of it being the laser i have ordered one as i have another slim ps2 with a dead laser anyways :)

Just an update guys.....
I have been reading over and over other peoples post regarding ESR problems but i can only find one that sticks out!
A guy being "cptapples" mentions that his ps2 would not read burned games on verbatim media unless it was printable????
http://forums.afterdawn.com/message_repl...uote_id=4756233 TAKE A LOOK AT BOTTOM POST
This does sound strange to me and a bit upsetting as i just bought 100 of these unprintable disks, 20 used and only 2 good backups to show for it!!! ;( so maybe here lies my problem. I guess i am going to have to buy more media and try again??
I should also say that im sure the game is patched know as i have verified with ISO BUSTER that the UDF folder of the image now only contains >TS FOLDERS as describe in this thread on the 14th post down
http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61770
I dont know what else to try really other than different media but im strapped for cash at the moment so if anyone else has any suggestions please advise...
PS : The 2 Working backups from this batch of disks are still working perfectly and being booted with swap magic so i guess i must of got lucky here. The games are "Killzone" and "quantum of Solace" STRANGE?

Yes it could very well be the brand of Verbatim you bought.
Or I also notice you have a V12 PS2 which is noted for the 'coils to burnout on the laser'
You could also try cleaning your laser.

I think its part the laser and other part the disks as the screeching noise that i mentioned earlier only really happens on these verbatim 16x dvd-r (other than the 2 successful ones i mentioned)
In regards to the ps2 i have theres a laser on the way so when that gets here (due monday) ill see if any of the copies ive made load.
Also i have 2 of these ps2's one that does read most disks and is the one im using and one that dont read at all so when the laser gets here i will put it in the non working one and try and swap/sell the other 1 to get a Chunky one. Ive read that the hard drive mod on them works great and ive got 3 spare ide HDD,s laying around.
Do you guys think the chunky option is a better choice and could you please explain a little on the pro's and cons of slim vs fat, what mod is easier ect.

A LOT of consoles really don't like these new fangled 16x disks.. mine won't read them at all.. and even my dvd recorder doesn't like them.. something like a 70% fail rate with them.
Can still get 8x printable verbs. I would suggest trying a couple of older 8x disks and see if the problem magically vanishes.

Hi guys, I know its been a while since my last post but ive been on holiday!
I finnaly cracked it!!!
Anybody having problems with 16x verbatim's just burn them @ 16x and all will be well. I tried buying 4x-RW verbs so i could attempt lower burning speeds as 16x verb only burn as low as 4x but this did not work either. i then read through a thread that stated that newer faster disks did not like being burnt at such low speeds so i thought what the hell ive got 20 coasters so whats another to the collection right? I patched and burnt @ 16x with my Verbatim 16x disks and can you believe 30 games later and not a single frame jump on any of them.
My advice is to always burn at 16x on newer media as most of the posts that advise on lower burning speeds are outdated and are probably in regards to older media. This is just my experience and what worked for me so im just posting back my finding as to help anyone else who is suffering with Skippy games or coasters.
So in short if you want reliable ps2 backups buy 16x Verbs and make sure you burn them @ 16x
Thanks for all your help peeps im just glad i got there in the end !!!
