Hi,
My ps2 sch75001 stopped booting my swapmagic dvd 3.6. And I bought a new set. This was bought from VPGames.com, the cd version works, but the dvd version doesn't work.
1. Is their another similar product on the net for booting backup games?

Now I successfully installed FMCB with extra elf's, tried various methods with no success. Tried SM3.8, ESR, CDloader. None appear to give results.
I live on an island, yes an island and to let someone solder a chip in could be risky.

I've had my disk set for about 4 years, played god of war 1 and 2 with no problem.

2. Could it be the flip top?

When booting from the old/new dvdrom sm3.6 the laser only reads the inner part of the dvd.

Booting with CDloader was interesting I achieved the boot EA screen but the game would not load.

I have about 100+ burnt non patched dvd's that I would like to continue to use.

3. For the experts, do you have a solution hack or money wise.
4. Would a new laser help?

thank you for all replies

Ok did you try this methods first

SM 3.8 ELF

Have to have Original PS2 game in the PS2
Start it up
Then launch the SM 3.8 elf
Then swap for backup
Press X to launch game.

For Cogswap

-boot up Cogswap
-place a PS2 disc in the tray
-wait til it displays the disc type
-press O button for CD or X button for DVD
-wait til it says "cogswap"
-then use a slide card (fat ps2) or sensor mod (Slim ps2) to swap out the game disc for your backup disc.
-press X to play the disc

If none of these methods boot your DVD backup

Then you could first try cleaning the laser
Use a q-tip and Rubbing Alcohol
Clean in a circular motion for about 30 sec
Dry now with the dry end of the q-tip for about 6-8 secs.

Note: YOu have to make sure when installing flip top that your careful when putting the cover back on over the reset button, or it will not read your disc either

If that doesn't help then you probably need a new laser.

hi smokeyrain,

Thanks for the tips, but now I have a different problem when trying to boot sm3.8. I did as you said, but when the ps2 tries to boot the backup dvd it boots the memory stick and FMCB begins again.

What must I change?
sm3.8 elf in the bootfolder is that correct?

thanks

BOOT.ELF ( R1)
ESR.ELF ( R2)
HDLOADER.ELF ( L1)
SMS.ELF ( L2)
FMCB Configurator ( START)

These above are the shortuct buttons in fmcb 1.8

I had swapped my SM 3.8 elf with the SMS.ELF

Configured my SM 3.8 elf to L2
Put in the Original GTA Vice City Stories
Started the PS2 holding L2, SM 3.8 starts
Swap the disk for your backup
Press Normal, Then choose your region

Or you could just configure your SM 3.8 in the OSDSYS options
to show in the Sony Main Browser

Set FASTBOOT to 'off'

That way with disc in, you can just launch it from the Sony Main Browser

Another way is just to Press R1 and load uLe
Have uLe configured to 'Disc control' to 'on'

Then browse using the FILEBROWSER to you SM 3.8 elf and launch it.

Hi

smokyrain thanks a million I got it to work. What I was doing wrong was the following I was pressing the action button for sm3.8 too soon. You have to wait and let the dvd spin then press the action button.

you saved a 100+ collection.
