Guitar Hero backup takes a VERY long time to load (20-40min)

I'm trying to run a Guitar Hero backup with FMCB. Its the dvd5 single layer version, i've tried 2 different versions of the dvd5 with no success.
For some reason it takes a very very long time to load. The first screen with bar that moves from left to right seems to go OK but when the bar gets to the right it just hangs for ages, then eventually kicks into the splash screens. Then to load a song to play, it again hangs for ages, this can take 40 minutes all in all, just to get into the first song. I thought maybe it was just the rip i was using but i tried a different version of the game (GH3 and 4) and got the same problem, some people seem to have it working fine, other people have the same problem as me but no-one has a solution.
I dont have a HDD so that option is out the window.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Use verbatim or sony dvd- if this won`t work clean u`r ps2 laser
