I've been playing NCAA Football 09 alot recently and it has started locking up (This is an original copy) It will boot up fine, and once I start playing it locks up.

Without a mod chip/swap disk is it possible to boot the original dvd, then switch it out with a backup in the menus?

You can try it, it may work yes..

YOu do need to block your sensors though on a slim so the PS2 will not know you are swapping.

But if your disc is in good condition and locking it up, it could just be a bad disc, or try cleaning your laser to see if that helps.

Yeah, I tried to clean the lens and all that to no avail.

What do you mean by blocking the sensors? I'm using a slim PS2 btw.
