New to Swap Magic 3.8; Will not load game?

Hi, I've been used to using an older version of swap magic, which was very simple; load swapmagic in the ps2, swap the discs, play the game. Although I can probably do that with 3.8, the same method is NOT working when I try loading Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. It used to work with 3.6 or whatever version of swap magic i was using before it got too scratched up for me to use anymore.. What I do when using swap magic 3.8 is:

1. load swap magic
2. swap discs to SMT:Nocturne when swap magic stops spinning
3. hit x on normal
4. hit x on default

After the first few times I did this, it loaded up to a black screen. The disc was spinning, although not at full speed. I tried a whole bunch of other things afterwards, using special load and default, and both normal load and special load with ntsc, but nothing works, and now when i do normal load and default, it goes to the red screen telling me to put in the correct format of ps2 disc.. I really need help with this, I just want to play my burnt SMT:Nocturne like I used to with my old swap magic..
