So Ive been wanting to play some old ps2 games recently with backups that i made. Ive been using swapmagic for awhile now (about a year) without any problems, it works great. But to be honest it starts to be a pain in the butt to have to swap the dvds out every time i wanted to play a game, so i started looking for alternatives online.
I came across McFreeBoot reading around the forums, and it sounds like exactly what i was looking for, and since i had SwapMagic aready it was fairly easy to installl onto a memory card. I used their noob package which comes with uLaunchElf, SMS, ESR, HDLoader, and FMCB Config pre installed.
Now my problem: I thought it would be as easy as putting in a backup dvd that worked with swapmagic and mcfreeboot would be able to load it up for me without me having to swap cds using swapmagic, but i guess its not that simple. From what i read i may have to use ESR and use the ESR program to alter ps2 backup iso's and use that to load a game.
Is there a way i can just burn a ps2 backup iso and play it using mcfreeboot without discswaping? Or is this ESR thing my best bet? Also i would prefer to use DVDs for my backups instead of a HD, but that is an option too if i have no other choice.
I appreciate any help anyone has to offer. Sorry, if this has been asked many times before. I may have not been using the right search terms before posting.
Just a heads up, and it could just be that is having this issue... You will need a 2nd memory card to save to. I've been using swap magic, and for the same reason(s) you mentioned I looked into Mcboot.
ESR is very nice, easy to use, BUT I haven't gotten a single game (3 out of 3) to save to the same memory card that mcboot is on. it will see the mem card in game but errors when it tries to write to it.
Not exactly a deal breaker for ESR but if u don't have a 2nd memory card to swap in game, then its something to think about.
