Hello, I received a coupon booklet from Costco in Illinois and it has buy one get one free 100 disc spindles or sony dvd-r. So in the end it will be 200 dvds for 30 bucks. My question is whether or not Sony is a good brand for backing up ps2 games.

Yes they are good, if you buy the ones that are listed under 1st class media

http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

I use them all the time in my V7 and V14. They work flawlessly for me, when burning at 4x using imgburn or DVD Decrypter.

Then again, things also depend upon what burner you have, burn speed, shape of your PS2 laser etc.

My consoles: Nintendo64>Dreamcast aug/99>PS2 V7-Seagate 400gb hdd-Maxtor 300gb hdd,PS2 V14 FMCB 1.8 - Memor32 >V18 SM 3.6 >DS-Lite-G6DS Real 16GB-R4DS Ultra 8gb SDHC>Gamecube-Original>Wii-Wiikey 2>PSP PHAT CFW 5.00 M33-6>DSi (Kingdom Hearts Edition)-EZ Flash Vi - M3i Zero Sakura>Kindom Hearts:Birth by Sleep PSP 3000>PS3 80GB. That can be from either your burning too fast or two slow.

The old idea was to burn the slowest setting possible but this idea was made back when CD/DVD burning were in their first generation.

Times have change and technology has improve. Burning too fast or too slow puts extra stress on the laser and can affect the quality of your burns.

For a 16x DVD-R on a 22x DVD burner just burn at 6x or 8x or 10x.

I wish I had my links to the sources but I'm on my laptop. But the idea of burning the slowest possible setting is now just as bad as burning at MAX setting.

yeah i use them as well, 200 games all backed up, in Sony DVD-r's and works darn well...even my ever first burned game (3 years ago) works like new...but be careful though...there are sony's out there that are fake...maybe that's the one you had...since i am using sony for a very long time, i already know which is authentic and fake

the ones that are made in taiwan are the good ones

i burn with DVD decrypter at 4x speed
