Alright, here's the deal.
I got swap magic 3.6 a month ago and I still havent solved my problem.
When I first got swap magic, I used Fujifilm DVD+R 16x to play backups. The worked but not so well, as in the game/music would skip alot. Then I read online that the best DVD's to use would be Verbatim DVD-R so I went and bought a pack of 25 today (16x). Well, I tried those and they don't work period. Swap magic would load it up then it would flash red then black real quick like it normally would, and just stay black. I left it there for half an hour or more and still nothing.
Here's what ive tried burning with. (using the Verbatim DVD's):

Alcohol 120%: 4x and 8x
DVD Decrypter: 4x and 8x
Imgburn: 4x and 8x
So yeah...6 DVD's wasted.

I don't know what version my PS2 is but its a PS2 Slim SCPH-79001
Anyway if anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know.

Edit: Ok they seem to load up now (some still give a black screen) but they hang at the loading screen now.

Games I've tried: (All games are NTSC-U)
Samurai Western (Black Screen)
Monster Hunter (Black Screen)
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (Hangs at now loading)
Tales of Legendia (Worked once)
Bujingai: The Forsaken city (Hangs often at loading screens)
Without Warning (Black Screen)
Onimusha 1~4. (All black Screens)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (Hangs at Capcom logo)

PS2 Version: N/A
PS2 Region: NTSC
Backup Method: Swap Magic

I don't think the lazer is the issue. It's a new PS2, bought it like a few days before getting the swap magic. In any case, I'll try getting 8x discs but I can't really find any stores that have them.

If your using DVD+R, make sure in Imgburn or DVD Decrypter to set your BOOKTYPE to DVD-ROM

It may or may not make a difference.

I use 16x discs all the time and they work fine in my V14 and V7 PS2.

It may depend upon though if you have one of the latest burners or not, or as varnull said try 8x discs.

The Fujifilm dvds are +R but i heard that Fujifilm is a bad media. Sad thing is though, they work better than the Verbatims do so I'm not really sure about anything at this point. Like I said, i doubt the laser is the issue because the PS2 is like a month and a few days old. Brand new from EBGames.

Fujifilm is 2nd Class media

http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

Are you Selecting your own Region NTSC when you load the game.

Or try the special button and see if that makes a difference.

Also just stick with DVD decrypter or imgburn when burning the game.

What is your burner that your using?

I have used Fujifilm DVD-R and they worked fine with Swap Magic 3.8

You can check your burner by opening imgburn. It will tell you at the top right when you choose to write a file, or in the Destination section.
That is just one method of checking.

It seems that specific drive will not change the BOOKTYPE for DVD+R media to DVD-ROM in Imgburn as its supposed too.

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=7951

I found specs on the LG H12N, but not for your drive. It seems that drive came mostly with prebuilt systems.

Usually LG drives will burn to almost any media, and change the bitset automatically in imgburn.

Well if you could try Sony DVD-R or even Fuji DVD-R if that is all you can buy. Just buy a few too test.

Or if you have a friend with burner you could try burning a backup and test in your PS2.

No they won't harm your laser. The only discs that are hard on the PS2 laser is DVD-RW +RW

Problem solved. I got Sony DVD-R Disks and they work wonderfully.
The problem with the Verbatim DVDs was that I bought Dual Layered disks and I read that Swap Magic won't boot those up. So yeah. No peoblem anymore thanks for the help.
