I've used SM more times than I can count for the same two games for almost a year now. Suddenly, it's stopped working. I'm using a fatPS2 with memorex DVD-Rs (not that I think the disc matters since they've worked fine numerous other times).
It will boot up, show the logo, then go black and restart the PS2. Sometimes it will automatically try again, but sometimes I need to eject and then reinsert the DVD to get it to boot again. Here's the weird part: The second time it boots, it makes it past the logo, bringing me to the screen I want it to be at, but already, without me touching the PS2 at all so I can start swapping, it says, "Not a valid PS2 disc." Even if I try swapping, it will make a sound like it's loading, then stop and not go on to boot the game.
If anyone knows what's going on, I'd really appreciate the help, thanks.
It's possible your swapmagic disc is going bad or maybe your laser is having a hard time reading the discs. Is it possible to try it in someone else's PS2 and see if it works.

It will be a couple months before I can try someone else's PS2 (the disc was originally a friend of mine's), but I was starting to wonder if the disc itself is just getting old. Is this something a DVD Dr. or some sort of buffer could fix?
It's possible if maybe it just has some scratches. Some places like Blockbuster have a scratch remover that may work. Usually they will do it for a few dollars.
