Hi guys, newbie poster Kitsune1982 here.
I found a really cool method combining l-burna's method for dvd9 compression which also works on ps2 dvd5 games!! =D
Basically you will need three programs: DVD Decrypter, ISOpen and WinHex 17.2.
Using DVD Decrypter or the program of your choice, make a copy of the ps2 dvd. once that's done, open up ISOpen and open your .iso image and click on the 'iso conversion' button under tools I think. choose the iso and click the confirm button. it will prompt you for a resulting bin/cue. click ok then 'convert'. depending on the size of the image it will take 5-20 minutes depending on the speed of your pc. once that's done, open up the bin with winhex, and if you are using 17.2 go to tools->file tools->split. once again click on the bin image and depending on your game you can shrink it down. I will use atelier iris 2 for this example. the game is 1.7 gb in size but you can put 700 there and choose mb then click ok. don't worry about the extra files it prompts you to save, just name them something like bloop or weee or blahh as you wont need them. it will process it then finish. click on file->save all files and click ok. now copy/paste the cue file you created in isopen to the same directory your shrunken game is in. now go to cdvd and select iso, then browse to your folder and double click your compressed game. go to system then boot cd/dvd full and boom your game will load! =D
