I have a PS2 slim 77001 and I want to play ps1 backup games. I have the first PS1 game I ever bought (Space Invaders) and then I have image files of Space Invaders and Activision 30 Classic Games. I blocked the sensors using tape and card board (3 sensors) and I can play PS2 games with the lid open so I think I did that part right. Now I put a PS1 game in (original space invaders) and go to the PS2's browser. It read it as a playstation (2?) game and so I put in my burnt game and pressed X. The screen went black but then went back to the browser.

So that's when I burned the second game (30 classics) but now the original PS1 disc I'm using is only showing up as an audio CD and I can't get it to do anything now. I have ordered a cheap PS1 game from eBay which I will use to try it again but my question is this: Can I play backups with this PS2 without buying a modchip or swap magic discs? I have a PS2 Gameshark v1.1 as well but I read that the exploit involving that would only work on an older PS2.

You need to use uLe and fmcb 1.8 to play PS1 backups on your slim.

If you own a Slim PS2, you can play PS1 backups using fmcb 1.8 and uLe
if the following conditions are met

- PS1 Original disc
-sensors on PS2 need to be disabled, either by tools, fliptop or tape and tissue method
-uLe by default in fmcb is R1 on the PS2 trigger

I configure uLe already to have 'Disc Control' set to 'on'
And I also configured 'PS2 Browser' (its under misc/ in FILEBROWSER) to a shortcut key in uLe

1. Place your Original PS1 disc in the PS2
2. Start up fmcb and hold R1
3. uLe will load, disc will stop
4. Swap Disc via fliptop or having sensors blocked
5. Press shortcut key for 'PS2 Browser' or use FILEBROWSER to search for PS2 Browser

Your PS2 will restart and should now play your PS1 backup

Everything I've been reading assumes I know how to get FMCB on my memory card. That seems to be the hardest part of it. Once I get that I feel like I will be able to do anything... From what I can understand, it's comparable to a Pandora battery for PSP.

I have a decent idea of what I need to do... just none of it's working lol.

All the different methods to INSTALL fmcb 1.8 are in this link

http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/

There are many methods in which one can use, including a Free Volunteer program, only requiring you to pay postage to and back.

There are also guides and links to the Official forums on PSX-Scene for more clarification.
