Cannot find backed up games on HDD

Since I'm new and not tech savvy I'll just stick to the points. My modded xbox has an xenium ice chip and 250gb HDD. My son had it for a year and somehow deleted all but the retail kernel. I went on some forums and figured out how to get m8.bin to come up and to get to the evoX dash. But now the backed up games cannot be found anywhere. When i put a game in to back it up on dvd2xbox, it shows minimal space left to save it to. So the HDD I think still has the backups in there, but how to get to them? Oh, the boot up screen to the evoX dash is not the same either. It used to boot up with a red X until the dash came up, now its green with the evoX logo in the upper left corner. I have xtoolbox and boXplorer and still can't find the backups. Is this something anyone can please help me with, as I cannot mod an xbox and hope to save this one?? Thanks in advance. I do still have the original games and can back them up again if needed with a different solution. Thanks again.
