Thanks for the response.
When you say manually set the speed, I simply changed it at the drop down on the bottom right, is that correct or do you mean going into settings?
Regarding the book type, I went into it and selected DVD+RW DL and then set it as DVD ROM...is that correct?

I did all the above and it failed.

i have one of these lite-ons, it replaced my 8 year old Pioneer 108C which still worked and made well over a thousand burns in its life. the only reason i replaced it was my new computer lacked a IDE controller.

the lite-on was a more critical luck decision. there are two types of the same drive the iHAS124-Y older more robust and built to last, the iHAS124-C on the other hand is whats considered a throw away drive and by what Ive heard garbage.

its a 50/50 chance

in the wise words of Dirty Harry "you feelin lucky punk, well are ya."

As my luck would have it i Got a Y variant, lucky me. now if i could win that lottery.
