Replacing Xbox HD using laptop/external USB drive

I don't have a desktop PC so I can't use any of the guides that require you to replace your actual computer's hard drive with the drive you want to ultimately put into the Xbox.

But I'm having a terrible time finding a tutorial on how to replace the Xbox's hard drive using a drive that I've put in a USB external casing.

Can someone help me find such a tutorial?
