Linking old DVD player to soundbar

I recently got a LG smart tv and LG soundbar but have an old sony 5.1 DVD player, got rid of the speakers because I want the sound to come through the soundbar, there is an optical cable connecting from TV to soundbar and scart from DVD player to TV,I can't get sound from the DVD player please help thanks!
