Using a Boost card on a Samsung phone?

Hi folks. I got a Motorola i830 (Boost Mobile) about a half a year ago after having had AT&T for a few years. I hate this phone (which of course begs the question of why I got it...)! :)

I unlocked my Samsung a437 and it even says "Boost" as it turns on. But I cannot make any calls or do anything a cell phone should! I called Boost and was told that the networks are incompatible. Is this true, or just a line?
