My budget is around $300 or a bit more to get my first good digital camera with a great zoom.

I want it for shooting sporting events and nature with vacations in between.

I noticed the price and reviews on the SX40 and it seemed nice but my buddy said it is garbage compared to the Panasonic FZ150.


Can someone clarify?
