OH!! Not so fast, looks like the WODE team is releasing XODE...it's on the front of their official news page right now. Looks like we have a race coming on and pricing control. The field is opening up in the 360 scene! A new challenger!

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

This is cool but not really that useful to me unless you can use it on Live. I've only one modded 360 and I want Live. Even if they find a way to play on Live without being banned, M$ will surely move to prevent it. I don't see the big deal in burning discs anyway but if for some reason I'm banned from Live, then I'd certainly get it. Maybe the new disc format will cause online play with backups impossible. If that's the case, I'll also invest in this. Though a proper 360 jailbreak would be awesome without having to jtag. If only M$ were as incompetent as Sony have been.

this looks great and all but MS are likely to do everything in their power to put a halt to it and while i don't mind paying a hundred for it, i don't want it to turn into a paperweight six months down the line cos MS found a way to put the kaibosh on it

There has been a few news updates for the X360Key and thought I would post them up.
The first is the team has announced they have received a Lite-On 0410 drive and are planning to add support for it in the release firmware.
The second bit of news is that it looks like key extraction from drives may not be a part of the release firmware, this would mean people would need to use flashing tools to extract the key out of their drives manually to then install on the MicroSD memory card for the X360Key to read. They are working on key extraction being a built in feature of the x360key for sure but it may or may not make it out in the release firmware.
The third news is that the release date has been pushed back a little as the beta testing program has been extended, release now looks like being end of July to mid Aug.
