Tried to update from last fall dashboard to current dashboard. Only storage was a 1GB flash drive formatted as a memory unit. It downloaded, rebooted and gave this message:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
System Update Stopped
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can't read the update from your storage device. Please reinsert it to continue the update.

If the problem persists , visit www.xbox.com/support

Status Code:23EF-3151-B680-0700-C000-0034

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steps tried so far:
-Reinserted the drive as it asked. Didn't work.
-Downloaded the update to another flash drive and plugged in it. Didn't work.
-Rebooted the Xbox with only the above flash drive in to try to update. Didn't work.
-Copied the data files off the original flash drive to a new flash drive to try for better reading. Didn't work.
-Booted the Xbox with out any drives or memory units. Didn't work.
-Powered on the xbox while holding the sync button to try to clear update cache. Didn't work.

Any suggestions would be great as this system is not under warranty.

So I don't understand... is this error only appearing when you try and update? Or are you now stuck in limbo and every time you turn on the xbox you get this message?

Seems to be saying either the drive is corrupted or the update unfortunately the error code seems to be useless on the help site..pffft go figure

Hmmm... hate to say it but you seem to have exhausted most of your options... I would say it's pretty screwed up now.

Hold the the sync button in while booting...may take a few tries...good luck.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I can't do anything on the console because of this message. It won't even play the intro boot video.

No red or green lights at all on the circle. Just the power light in the center. The green lights flash as normal if I press the sync button.

I tried that twice, but I will try it a few more times when I get back to it later this week.

Ok, I pulled the link off Microsofts Page (they had a newer dashboard update, SystemUpdate_12625_USB) and found out that when I tried the USB method before, I somehow pulled a file off the old support article. I had SystemUpdate_9199. I don't suppose an older update would work when I just tried to update it two days ago. I have hope that this new update will work.

Do I put the folder on the root of the flash drive or the files inside the update folder? I figure it's folder, but never hurts to check.

Ok, downloaded current update and put it on a flash drive along with another (new) flash drive acting as the Xbox MU. It finally took the update and it is now on the current dash with Kinect support and new theme/boot video etc.

Thank you to all who helped in the process!

Little kick...

I have the same problem.
Tried everything you tried.
I have one question: you said: "Ok, downloaded current update and put it on a flash drive along with another (new) flash drive acting as the Xbox MU."

What do you mean, you used 2 flash drives? I don't understand. How do you make a flash drive act as the Xbox 306 memory unit?

Good to know. As for Mimz786 what is the "123456789" all about?

No clue on the 123456789, but what I meant about the flash drives is that I did have 2 of them and to use a flash drive as a memory card on the Xbox you have to have a dashboard update from Fall 2010 or newer I think and it will let you format it in system options.

Okay thanks. I resolved it via another way though!

I used a new xbox hard drive and when it connected it worked again!

I think he is saying...
Put the dash update on one flash drive
Have another flash drive formatted as a memory unit instead of the hard drive
Install the update.

I don't know if you need the memory unit. I think you can do it just without the HD.
