Ok. I see a ton of tutorials but nothing that fully answers my question. If everyone were to rip their own backups properly, then would we ever need ABGX? When xgd3 RROD rips were released, no one said we needed abgx because they were all supposedly ripped using the 0800 fw. But who is to say that they were not ripped properly, like most of the other rips floating around? Can someone "dumb" this down for me? I'm a bit confused as to why we need to re-patch certain AP25 games after an update....but people who ripped their own backups don't need to re-patch. What gives?

Thanks in advance.

No.

Unless you rip a game yourself, there is currently no way to know if an XGD3 game has been ripped properly.

People who ripped their own backups DO need to re-patch or re-rip.

The dashboard contains a table called the DAE table that holds all of the data about AP2.5 and which games are affected. When you rip games using 0800, you have to have the latest dae.bin file on your hard drive so that the correct AP2.5 data can be ripped from your originals. Sometimes when the dashboard is updated, the DAE table is updated too. When that happens, you either need to re-patch your game with abgx360 (not currently possible as it has no XGD3 support) and re-burn it, or get the latest dae.bin file, re-rip your original and re-burn it.

If you're using custom firmware and burned discs on a 360, the only people that don't have to worry about re-patching/re-burning due to AP2.5 are those that have 360s with drives that don't support AP2.5 at all (all Samsungs, some Hitachis). Everyone else has to re-patch/re-rip/re-burn regardless of whether they are ripping their own games or not.

It retrieves all of the AP2.5 data required to pass the current checks based on the particular dae.bin file you're using. When the dae.bin file is updated, the checks change and therefore the AP2.5 data on your backup disc is then out of date so you need to re-patch/re-burn or re-rip/re-burn.
