First off, I've flashed dozen of 360s and jtagged my last one so I'm not a total noob. I've just been away from the scene for a few years and I know a lot has changed.

I have two stock, fat consoles (a benq and a liteon - I think but haven't looked yet) and I want to flash one of them so I can play the Dead Space series (1-3, I never got around to it). So what would be my best bet? Before it was as easy as flashing the latest LT with JF (v2 I think it was), burning the game and enjoying - what has changed?

-Is there a different burning process now?
-Do I need to patch each game differently for the current LT FW? What patch?
-Verbatims still the way to go? (I know - duh! but couldn't hurt to ask)
-Just grab LT3 for my drive and follow the JF tut?

I should mention that I really don't care about playing online with either console ever, so banning isn't much of a concern, but I wouldn't mind avoiding it if it isn't too much of a pain.

I really appreciate any pointers you guys can provide and for saving the lectures about searching/google/etc - I'm not asking for anyone to regurgitate a tutorial or hold my hand through the process, but after 6+ years of modding info circulating the interwebs on the subject, it can be cumbersome to identify what currently is the best practice.

Thanks!

Until actual modders turn up this should set you on your way tho i have two words for you jtag or rgh (reset glitch hack)

1-copy is with 0800 drive not kreon

2-discs still verbs from singapore

3-games are now over 8gb are called XGD3 discs, xbc should be able to tell you what type of disc it is or what size

At one time to burn XGD3 games to verbatim an ihas drive was required with a particular flash to its chip, however burnerMax software has seen to that, the readme that comes with it has info on what burner chipsets in dvd drives can work so an ihas is no longer necessary

5-latest imgburn is used to burn the games

6-xbox backup creator with the dae.bin thingy is required to read the larger games correctly along with the 0800 drive

7-for online play you most probably would be better off with the xkey,i can't tell you much about it as i don't use one there's plenty of topics in the 360 section you should be able to come across them quite easily or one of the regulars will advise you if they see your post in passing

8-since i don't go online i have no need of patching so can't comment on that ,tho as always there's no guarantee going online with modded anything will not be banned at some point however thats where the xkey comes in as it emulates to fool whatever into thinking all is ok

9-Yes LT3 with latest dash however this is not my field of experience so from what i gather flash drive back to stock then update dash then reflash...better get a 2nd opinion on that however if you have dash 7 then jtag is the way to go or you could just reset glitch hack if it's v8 or up it's frak'n awesome, well the jtag is, you can get an idea from youtube them in action *thumbs up* think along the lines of xbmc on the original xbox

10-jtag or reset glitch (rgh) are no good for xbox live however they do what the original xbox did to a point & yes they play games without the disc, the dash is called freestyle

There is a new firmware above the LT3.0, it's LTU1.2 but that firmware is for newer 360's (i.e. Slim). So ya 3.0 would be your best option, and when you update the dash, if you haven't in a while, one of the updates reflashes the drive back to stock, so just update to the latest dash, and then install LT3.0 to the drive.

Thanks for all that. I considered RGH previously, but I'm extremely cheap and didn't want to buy the kit - I haven't spent a dime on flashing a single drive and I made all my own stuff for my jtag. So when I was unable to determine what in the RGH kit was essential and just a convenience item, I gave up. I may still try this if anyone had a good, cheap suggestion.

I know better than to say that I'll be acquiring my ISOs from any other source than an original disc that I legally obtained... but... Lets just say that the reading of the discs will not be a concern.

The IHAS burner is where my concern comes into play - this is the exact type of thing that I was worried about and I recall something like this just becoming the norm as I was leaving the scene. Before, any ol' burner would do the trick... Now I have to buy a special burner and mod it... Fudge that! Seriously, after dropping $40 or so on a burner, I'm already 1/2 way to a xk3y or 1/1 way to a full RGH kit... Plus these are older, probably-gonna-RRoD, fat consoles - I would like to not spend anything on them.

So can I get away without buying anything? Also, if I wanted to play Dead Space 1 tonight, I don't need anything but a flashed drive (LT3) and a fresh verb disc right? I don't need to patch really old ISOs do I?

You should ALWAYS patch your games, just to make sure they are still safe. Sometimes games from the net are outdated and need ABGX360 to verify that everything is patched properly. Just to be safe.

No NO NO the ihas drive is no longer required nor do you need to flash it,the burnermax software works with the ihas as well as other dvd drives you just need to find out what chipset your dvd burner has, just download it it's all in the readme there's no flashing needed

dead space 1 is old 2008 or earlier wasn't it LT2 (its an xgd2 game if thats any help) should play that fine, dead space 2 was 2011,you would need to find out what date lt3 came out if it was after DS-2 release lt2 should do it

EDIT: HAHA just remembered lt3 games are 8gb not 7 so if the lt went from lt2 to lt3 then dead space 2 should play on 2.0 i would think assuming it's 7gb,the only issue with dead space two would be dash version

there's a website here that has a list of xgd2 games its the top link
