as you might guess the next question is if there is anything i can do about this other than hand it back. its a real pain. had planned to download skyplayer and setup the xbox gold account to use it to watch tv. is there anything that can be done? Thanks

As Modking30 suggested, you would have to RGH (Reset Glitch Hack) the console. If this is above your knowledge or don't feel comfortable with working on xbox consoles, return it ASAP, or relist the item, letting the next person know what to do.

You'll need about 40 to 60 US$ in hardware and good soldering skills. Just for unbanning the box the efford isn't worth it, I'd say.

Correct. It's a lot of work and takes a xbox motherboard that is unbanned.

thanks guys. don't think i'll be performing rgh or using xlink. in truth i only wanted to use the box as a tv receiver using skyplayer which requires an xbox live account sadly.
