Craig - Did you follow the steps I posted to the letter in post 3, including clearing the OPC history and power cycling the drive? Your results seem very variable, which was what was happening to me before I switched to using Lightning UK's recommended settings. If it's not that, then I reckon those discs you're using could be fake Verbatims.

No worries. Hopefully the new batch of discs solves your woes.

I don't think these drives are that great though to be honest. I get better and more consistent results with my Pioneer and Optiarc drives, but I guess these LiteOns had to be used because of their capability to be flashed with Burner Max.

I'm using the same settings as you but I get the spike at the second layer like craig is getting. I might just try clearing the OPC history again and power cycling to see if it makes any difference.

BTW I'm using verbs and the spike only reaches PI 69 and PIF 5 but it's still there all the rest of the disc has the PI under 28 and PIF at 4 max

The pic I posted on the last page was one from using my Pioneer burner.

Every one of my Burner Max burns looks like this: -

I always get that PI peak at the start, although it only goes up to 25-30 so it's not an issue. It seems weird though.

Maybe all DVD burners are like this though, in terms of people getting variable results with the same drive, and perhaps it depends a lot on your system specs and configuration.

Did you try going through the settings again and shutting down the pc and turning it back on then trying another one at 4x?

Are you up to date with drivers on your PC, particularly the MOBO drivers?

There's also the possibility that the drive you bought is faulty. If you had no issues with your previous burner, then maybe it's that.

You should stay off live anyway for now with any AP25 or XDG3 backup games people are getting flagged.

I went through device manager and checked each item and each time it said the latest drivers are installed. Then i installed driver detective and it says i have 19 drivers out of date.I didnt go ahead and pay the £30 asking price to register and fix it.Is that program reliable?

That NFS burn is much better! It looks pretty much the same as mine with that same PI peak at the start. You've got a higher PIF overall, but still, that's within limits.

As for Driver Detective I've never used it, but I'm dubious of the value of those apps - and whether they are honest. Perhaps they conveniently "find" updates so you think the program is worth buying. If you know what hardware is in your machine you can check the manufacturer's website for driver updates for each component.

Driver detective does work fairly well. A friend of mine was having an issue with ubknown device driver and he purchased it. Had me to check it out for him. Because it found a lot of update drivers and he wanted to know what exactly the unknown was for later purposes. Turned out it was a math coprocessor for his gpu that even installing the nvidia software didn't fix. If you know what your hardware is though, and have no unknown items in device manager, then it may not be worth the added expense.

Yeah, that's the sole reason why I wouldn't pay for it. I guess it's pretty handy to have a one-stop solution for finding the latest drivers (Windows Update doesn't do the best job of this), but I wouldn't pay for it.

Hello All,

I have the same drive as steo2k8 , an IHAS 524 B AL2A. Today i am burning my 20th verb mkm003 as a coaster.

I have read and applied lightningUK's setttings and results are just alittle bit better but the BIG spike @ 48-51% range stays the same...

I thought i should write here that moving the image file from extended drive to the root of the system helped. except the BIG spike...

one thing i have left to try which is advised as " critical" is getting the pc into safe mode and removing the other drives(by power off) to decrease the vibration on the pc case...

although i admit that it is hard to believe that as the writer fail only on the layerbreak part.

so to sum it up.

the settings i will be using for burning mkm 003's is:

Force hyper tuning ON
Online Hyper tuning OFF
Smartburn ON
Overspeed OFF
Perform OPC ON
Clear OPC on everyburn
Write @ 4X
Read ISO img from primary partition
Disable other Drives
Boot in "safe" MODE.
2.4X speed should be the correct value

ps:i still think the problem is the media itself...

HERE I COME WITH GOOD NEWS MY (TROUBLED LIKE ME) FRIENDS!

Last night, i have my first ever good copy out of mkm 003 with an ihas524b.

Force hyper tuning ON
Online Hyper tuning OFF
Smartburn ON
Overspeed OFF
Perform OPC OFF
Clear OPC on everyburn(NOT CRITICAL)
Write @ 2.4 (CRITICAL)
Read ISO img from primary partition(NOT CRITICAL)
Disable other Drives (NOT CRITICAL)
Boot in "safe" MODE CRITICAL)

Being in "safe mode" did not help enough so i dropped the speed to 2.4 and burned 3 good copies.

have to experiment more to pin point the solution but if you are getting sick, have a go at these settings...

the original advice came from a guy , credits to him. although i did not listen him untill 12 coasters...P

"vastego"
I had same error. First run EEPROM.exe; in the option tab make sure all settings ticked except Over Speed Writing.Burn at 2.4(MKM.003) OP unticked. And try to burn in windows safe mode(It? critical). With this config you can make flawless backups?

I just made another burn without being in SAFE MODE , i just disabled ethernet and antiirus program but THE BURN FAİLED.

so whether its my Pc being weak (2gb with 2 cores from year 2005) or something awkward going on,

Safe mode is a must here...

What settings should I be using for Verbatim MKM-001-00? I see all these posts with the settings for MKM-003-00. Should the settings be the same for both?
