I have an iHas124-04B
How would you "convert" it? :S
Here's how you do it, but try this at your own risk. If you mess it up, you can brick your drive so don't blame me if that happens! If you don't need the extra features that this unlocks (Smart Erase and LabelTag) then don't bother doing it, cos while the risk of bricking is small if you follow the instructions correctly, there's no point taking the risk just to unlock features you will never use.
1. Using Flash Utility and EEPROM Utility, grab a backup of your flash and EEPROM.
2. Download the AL27 stock firmware for the LiteOn iHAS524B here: -
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html
3. Run the firmware updater and update your drive.
4. Run EEPROM Utility, click on the CrossFlash tab and press the "Convert Drive" button.
5. Once it's done, power down your PC, then power it back on again. Your computer will recognise the drive as a 524B.
6. Update to official firmware AL2A either via SmartPack or the AL2A.exe file that comes with the Burner Max firmware pack, then back up your flash and EEPROM again.
7. Use Flash Utility and flash the Burner Max bin file.
You'll now have an iHAS524B flashed with Burner Max.

According to the faq, the A models have the same chipset as the B models, but haven't been tested. In theory, it might work.

Lite-On iHAS124B
Lite-On iHAS224B "

@camaroe - I would just use ImgBurn.
@infamous - I don't think the A models will work, cos the chipset is not the same. It's still a MediaTek chipset, but it's a different one.
@ssj4_2004 - No problem, but only the models that start with an even number have LightScribe. The 124/324/524 don't have the required hardware.
@kingofall - You must have done something wrong. Once your drive is flashed with Burner Max, ImgBurn no longer asks if you want to overburn/truncate because the ISO will fully fit on the disc.
@otisofro - If you want LightScribe, get the 224B, otherwise get the 124B. You can use the drive with a laptop if you buy an external caddy. As for links to buy, which country are you in?

For those of us that insist on using up the crap media we already have we can use this http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ to change the firmware's media descriptors to make the crap media work. This is mostly for testing media on my part. Remember any of us that choose to do this is doing so as our own choice. Therefor we can only blame our self if anything goes wrong. Also remember this is changing the way c4eva meant for the firmware to be, so keep a copy of his version in a safe place to flash back to when wanted. I say if you have a banned console to test with and are comfortable tweaking then why not.

The tutorial pdf says to, "Remember the Max iXtreme Burner will only successfully write at a Maximum speed of 4x on MKM003 (with OPC) and 2.4x on MKM001 (without OPC) DVD+R DL" so I'm curious what others are doing. Probably following the directions, lol.
i have the same question

i have the same question
If you enable OPC then the burner does a little write/read test in the lead in area of the disc before it starts the main burn in order to determine the optimum laser strength to use. In theory, this should make all burns better, although in practice it doesn't always.
There's 2 ways you could approach it: -
1. Leave it off and if discs burn and verify OK and play fine on your 360, then don't worry about it. If discs don't burn/verify 100% then enable it and try again.
2. Try burning 1 disc with it on and 1 disc with it off. If 1 burn fails, you know which is the best setting to use. If both burns are OK, you could do disc scans with KProbe (Google it) to see which gives the best quality burn, then use that setting from then on.

Make sure you verify your burns too (there's a reason why this option is checked by default in ImgBurn!).
I have the iHAS124b with modded firmware, latest version of imgburn. I backed up my COD MW3 disc I purchased yesterday using XBC and the 0800 drive with the V3 firmware.
Trying to write the image to a blank DL disc using imgburn (settings are correct)
and an iHAS1124b (modded ALOS firmware).
I still get the error message that the image is too large to fit the disc.
I cancelled the write.
Should I be seeing the message?
Will the modded iHAS writer just write the whole image?
I don't want to write only part of the image, I want to be sure imgburn will do 100% of the image.
Any help would be appreciated!

@ckeays - No, you shouldn't get the message about the ISO being too big. Try flashing your burner with Burner Max again, cos someone else a few posts up from you had the same problem and re-flashing it fixed it.

just reflashed the drive, same thing. Imgburn shows the message
"There doesn't appear to be enough space on the disc....."
I get two choices,
1. write until the end of the image (overburn)
2. write until the end of the disc (Truncate)
Anyone?
EDIT: Problem solved. Here is how I figured it out.
Using the flash utility in the iHAS124B folder doesn't work for me. The program shows the drive is flashed and does not give any errors when flashing. So i figured it was ok.
I dumped the flash with the flash utility program in the main folder and compared it to the modified flash. Of course it was not the same.
Using the flash utility in the main folder (not the one in the iHAS124B folder) I was able to write the flash and then dump it again.
I again compared the dumped file to the modified firmware file.
This time both files were the same, and there was no error message from Imgburn.
It works!
Thanks for the help!

So I am pretty sure I have the latest 2.0 firmware on my xbox (I have a friend do it)I say this because I can play Bodycount and Dead Isloand fine. I also have the Lite-on 324 B flashed with Max Burner.
Problem:
Ive burned COD MW3 twice now, one before I got the Lite-on burner and used the turncate method and then the second with the flashed Lite-on. non work Im getting what some have already reported as the black screen for 5 seconds and then back to the dash with it saying "play game" with no game picture.
Before I trash yet another Verbatim (001 2.4x made in Singapore)any help on this would be very much appreciated.
If I do need to update the flash on my xbox (benq drive) can you please direct where to find how to do this b/c my friend has since moved.

I assume I can't but I'm asking to be sure. Will the Burner Max flashed drive RIP 360 games or do I still need to use my Kreon flashed drive? I'm asking because I've run out of PC drive bays and SATA slots.
Is it just me? This link brinsme to to a blank white page.

Can I use iXtreme 1.6 with my swap disc or must I reflash to LT+ 2.0 or above.
