Okay so I have an extra BenQ drive from a 360 that died on me. I heard that I can flash it to work on another 360,so I guess its the same flashing that allows me to play back ups right?

Anyway I'm not sure where to start as I have yet to flash a drive, but want to know in the same process is not only possible to get to work on my BenQ drive working on my Lite-On 360, but also play back ups.

Wow so many things people have to answer within your question. For starters i will provide links so you can familiarise yourself with the basics of whats needed and how to's.If your planning on flashing your own drive with either a laptop or desktop then this link has all the kit you need http://www.ck3.co.uk/x360usb_pro-mega-bundle-now-inc-ck3i.html .Next is a link to the Software needed and the tutorial. Its absolute that you read the jungleflasher tutorial following the flowcharts. http://jungleflasher.net/downloads.html .I suggest reading the jungleflasher tutorial before purchasing anything so your comfortable with the flashing procedure in your mind. Also there are loads of tutorials just by googling which can be used as reference.Spoofing drives (ie changing one make to another) is a bit of a no no as it can run into complications and may flag your console for a ban if you go online. You need to explain further the reasons for spoofing. What has happened to your liteon drive.?If its having problems reading disks then buy a laser hop its very easy to replace and there are loads of tuts out there to show you.If you think its something more mechanical then you can remove the pcb or ciruit board from your liteon and put it into your benq drive as they are very similar in structure and this 100% works. The only problem with this is it requires soldering and a spindle replacement. Here is a link to someone who managed it. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=740167 .The liteon is specific to your xbox mobo due to them having the same key,so its not just a case of swapping drives the key has to match. If your wanting to go down the flashing route but just to flash your own console, then really its not worth it as spending money on the kit, then a new liteon drive(if broken!)you could buy a new console for the total spend. Also bear in mind if you do flash and want to play backups you will also need a IHAS B dvd drive to burn the backups this incurs more spends.Let me know some clarity on the situation and on which route you want to take so we can all help further.

Well for starters. I have a BenQ 360, that I got off a friend but it RROD on me, and I have a working Lite On that I wanted to flash so I could play my back ups(Had I flashed 360 but sold it), but I don't have the tools at the moment to flash a Lite On on drive. So had an idea to take the drive from my BenQ which has less requirements to flash using my working Lite on 360.

But it sounds like it might be easier(and cheaper) to take it to the guy who does for $15 bucks around here.

A liteon drive is just as easy as unlocking a benq drive and flashing. The only difference being is that you need the probe to extract the key on a liteon drive.I would stick with your liteon, update to the latest dash and then as you said for $15 get it flashed to lt 3.0.Again once that has been resolved you will need a IHAS B drive to burn images of your backups.Truncating a image burn will flag your console if you go online. So to reiterate it will cost in the region of $50 in total excluding verbatim DL 003's.Then your good to go.

The only tools you need for flashing a liteon drive are a needle, a wire and your 360. I'd suggest a small switch, but it is not really needed, just makes things a lot easier to get the half tray open done.
The Video is german, but you can see what the guy does:

I used my 360 for power, and for the probe I used a needle that I connected with a wire to a metal part of my 360's cage. I also used a switch I got off ebay with this cable here:

You need the second cable from the left, I just made one cut and stripped both ends, then I put in the switch.
Edit:
Ok, I just found an English video of the same method:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds4SViHu6NE&feature=related

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
